Relationship between intergenerational transmission of values and psychological well-being of Russian teenagers in North Ossetia-Alania, Kabardino-Balkaria, Azerbaijan, and Latvia
On March 27 Galyapin V.N. took part in the "Culture matters" research seminar with the report on "Relationship between intergenerational transmission of values and psychological well-being of Russian teenagers in North Ossetia-Alania, Kabardino-Balkaria, Azerbaijan, and Latvia".
Previous studies have shown that psychological well-being is due to both intergenerational similarity, the transmission of values (Hadjar et al., 2012; Demđrutku, 2007), and differences in the values of parents and children (Bengtson, Kuypers, 1971, Grusec, Goodnow, 1994). It is also established that the intergenerational transmission of values can have different meanings for the psychological well-being of adolescents - members of the ethnic minority and the majority. This study was aimed at identifying the interrelationship between the intergenerational transmission of values and the psychological well-being of Russian adolescents who are an ethnic minority in four sociocultural contexts: the two republics of the Russian Federation (Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and Kabardino-Balkaria, Azerbaijan and Latvia The sample includes the triads, including the representative of the older generation (grandparent), the parent and the child from the same family: in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania N = 327, in the Kabardino-Balkaria N = 309, in Azerbaijan N = 315 and in Latvia N = 336. The results of multigroup analysis showed no structural invariance for all models, which allowed us to conclude that the interrelationships between the intergenerational transmission of values and the psychological well-being of Russian adolescents differ in the four investigated sociocultural contexts.
