The III Young Scientists Congress took place in the Sirius Science and Art Park on November 28–30, 2023. On the first day of the forum, a discussion was held on the tools and opportunities for engaging international early-career researchers in Russian science. The meeting was organised by HSE University together with members of the Association of Global Universities.
‘You Feel That the Impossible Becomes Possible’
In November, an open talk with Tatyana Bakalchuk, the founder of Wildberries, took place at HSE University’s Cultural Centre. The topic of the meeting was ‘The Era of the Platform Economy: Opportunities and Prospects for Everyone.’ A thousand people gathered to listen to the speech—students, teachers, and staff not only from HSE University, but also from other universities, as well as representatives of the business community. The event was organised by the HSE Business Club.

HSE University has hosted the latest in a series of adaptation seminars for research assistants. The event was organised by the HSE Centre of Music Projects, with Kristina Agaronyan, the centre's manager and graduate of the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, hosting the evening.
HSE University Students Win in the AIJ Science Competition at AI Journey 2023
The International Sber Conference of Artificial Intelligence, ‘AI Journey 2023’ recently took place in Moscow. Alexander Rogachev, doctoral student of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, and Egor Egorov, an HSE 4th-year undergraduate student became the winners of the AIJ Science competition for scientific articles on artificial intelligence that was held as part of the event. The research was carried out under the umbrella of the HSE's Laboratory of Methods for Big Data Analysis (LAMBDA).
HSE Holds Table Tennis Championship among International Students
Mixed-sex teams representing eight university faculties took part in the HSE Winter Tennis Cup, an interfaculty table tennis championship for international students. The team of the Faculty of Mathematics won the competition. The tournament was organised with the support of the Department of Internationalisation and the Department of Physical Training.
Games Facilitate Stroke Patients' Recovery
An international group of scientists including researchers from HSE University has proposed a novel approach to rehabilitating patients with motor disorders. According to the researchers, more effective recovery can be achieved by granting patients the freedom to choose their movements and providing an appropriate system of rewards for engaging in the prescribed exercises. The opinion paper has been published in Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair.
Measuring Pitch Frequency Can Help Train AI to Accurately Recognise Emotions
A new algorithm that enables precise measurement of the pitch frequency of a speech signal, a crucial parameter for identifying emotions and diagnosing illnesses, has been introduced by researchers at HSE Campus in Nizhny Novgorod. This method can operate in a noisy environment, in real time and with fewer computing resources than any currently existing analogues. The results of the study have been published in the Journal of Communications Technology and Electronics.

On November 22, the atrium of the HSE building on Pokrovsky Boulevard hosted the traditional Career Marathon organised by the Career Development Centre. The main objective of the event was to introduce HSE students to potential employers—companies and their representatives. At the poster session, the university’s students had the opportunity to network with employees of major Russian banks, marketplaces, financial institutions, and IT integrators, gaining valuable first-hand information.
