European Values: From the Discovery of America to the First World War
The English-language course ‘Europe and the World, ca. 1500 to 1914’ has launched on Coursera. Its author, Andrey Iserov, Deputy Dean for International Affairs at the HSE Faculty of Humanities, examines a historical span of four centuries during which European states reached the peak of their economic, military, and political power. Students of the course will learn how the independence of Hispanic America by the mid-1820s influenced China, what caused the religious schism in Western Christianity in the 16th century, and how European colonial policy developed.
Universities’ Pandemic Experience to Be Studied at the International Level
Russian and international researchers should intensify their joint efforts to analyze the changes in higher education over the past year and a half. Speaking at a round table held in the International Multimedia Centre of the Rossiya Segodnya (Russia Today) news agency, HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov suggested that this work be done as part of the International Observatory for Higher Education Transformations—a global research programme launched by HSE University and the Polytechnic University of Milan.
Summer University 2021: Bringing International Students and Lecturers Together Online
On August 20, the second online HSE Summer University came to an end. Students from 22 universities in 13 different countries enrolled in its courses. The Summer University 2021 was a truly international event, and while it was a little different from previous ones, it was no less unique.

In autumn 2021, the HSE Banking Institute will launch a new online master’s programme, Master of Finance, on Coursera. The educational content is based on HSE’s Financial Analyst master’s programme. HSE University-Nizhny Novgorod to Launch Online Master of Computer Vision Programme
This year, HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod will launch its Master of Computer Vision programme on Coursera. The fully online programme has been developed by leading experts from Huawei, ItSeez3D, Intel, Harman, and Xperience AI. It will be taught in English and is open to applicants from all countries. The closing date for applications is August 16, 2021.

HSE University’s online Master of Data Science programme trains specialists in contemporary data analysis, machine learning development, and research. The applications are accepted until July 19. Students of the programme hail from over 30 countries including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, India, the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, and Switzerland. New Safety Measures to Be Introduced at HSE University
Starting September 1, 2021, HSE University-Moscow is introducing new safety policies on campus to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They apply to students over 18 years old who have not had COVID during the last six months, have not been vaccinated (with a Russian or a foreign vaccine), nor have a medical exemption from vaccination. Free vaccination will be available on campus to all arriving students.
