boxes and more than 200 packages of gifts were collected by HSE students and staff for Days of Kind Gifts, which took place at the university on December 17-18.
HSE Gifts of Kindness Days
In December, HSE is holding Gifts of Kindness Days in the lead up to the New Year’s holiday. It’s an opportunity for HSE colleagues and students and friends of the university to bring some New Year’s cheer to those in need of help and support.

HSE Gathers the 'Whole World at One HSE' on National Unity Day
On November 4, the Higher School of Economics organised a celebration open to all Muscovites – the ‘Whole World at One HSE.’ Guests were able to visit open lectures by HSE professors, attend career aptitude testing, watch sci-fi movies, and buy homemade crafts and baked goods at a charity fair. The HSE News Service talked to several participants about the projects they presented.

The HSE School of Philology is organising a new university project, Poet in Residence. The first poet to take up the post is Alexander Kushner. In October he came to talk to students about what poetry is concerned with and promised students he would comment on their verses in the future.

Hamid Ait El Ceid moved to Moscow from Morocco a year ago to study in English-taught Master’s programme Political Analysis and Public Policy. Since arriving, he has learned about what it’s like to build the bridges between two completely different cultures.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students at the HSE Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) recently presented their innovations at the All-Russia Science Festival (NAUKA+). Among them were ‘intelligent electric outlets’, which eliminate worries about irons being left plugged in, and a device for measuring eye fatigue.
HSE Takes Part in Nationwide Science Festival NAUKA 0+
It’s become fashionable to take an interest in science and research, and there are lots of researchers and academics at HSE who do in addition to carrying out research are gifted enough to be able to explain it in an engaging way to other people. You can meet them and learn about the latest research breakthroughs at the NAUKA 0+ festival, which gets underway in Moscow on October 9. Here’s an outline of what HSE offers as part of NAUKA 0+.
HSE Presents the Exhibition ‘Opening the Collection. The World by Russian Photographer Sergey Chelnokov’ in the Museum of Moscow
In October 2015, the Museum of Moscow will exhibit a unique collection of images of pre-revolutionary Moscow from Sergey Chelnokov’s archive, available for the first time for the general public. Most of the photos were made using the then-unique technique of ‘stereo-pairs’, which require the images to be viewed through a special device, creating a 3D picture. A series of lectures ‘Photography and Cultural Memory’ will run alongside the exhibition.
