InfoWatch and MIEM HSE Found New Department
The Higher School of Economics and InfoWatch Group, a Russian developer of information security solutions for organizations, have announced a new Department for Organizational Information Security as part of the School of Electronic Engineering of the Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE). The decision was made by the HSE’s Academic Council and InfoWatch President, Natalya Kaspersky, has been named Head.
‘The goal of the new Department is to facilitate the training of highly qualified specialists in the field of organizational information security,’ says Kaspersky. ‘The current dearth of specialists in this field is only set to increase with the transition to a digital economy. The founding of the Department at such a prestigious university is our contribution to the development of engineering expertise in Russia and the popularization of professional activities in information security and related fields.’
The InfoWatch Department at MIEM HSE will build students’ theoretical and practical skills in designing, developing and testing software to protect organizations from internal threats to information security (IS), preventing organizational information leaks, and protecting organizations from targeted attacks and threats posed by the Internet of Things (IoT).
The department will also work to attract and involve leading Russian and international specialists in the field of organizational information security. It will host scientific and practical seminars and conferences, develop educational materials and provide students with practical experience in the industry.
‘In high-tech areas such as the Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, virtual and augmented reality and aerospace technologies, cybersecurity remains the most pressing issue,’ says Andrey Abrameshin, Deputy Director of the Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics. ‘The founding of the InfoWatch Department at MIEM HSE will enable us to train highly qualified specialists who will ensure the cybersecurity of a rapidly developing digital economy. It will also facilitate a powerful synergy between HSE and hi-tech business.’
With the founding of the Department at MIEM, a new laboratory will be established to provide students with hands-on training. Technology will be used to simulate threats to organizational security and students will develop methods to combat them.
In September 2017, InfoWatch announced the launch of a scholarship program at MIEM HSE, aimed at developing students’ intellectual and creative potential in the field of information security. Both parties also signed an agreement outlining the collaboration.
